7/10 - A good show from The Eldon. A very good pub with a good atmosphere and an very good roast. Two types of potato was a highlight, getting roasts and mash was a pleasant surprise! Meal was very nice but nothing too special. X-factor contestant : John Adeleye Jim Gardner
Potato. Of the mashed variety. That's what really stood out for this weeks installment of Lesbioke. Yeaaaahhhh it's a Sunday roast, but who says mash can't put in an appearance every now and then? And I'm glad that it did. It was rich, creamy, mashy goodness. And it made it for me. There was no giant yorkshire this week (perhaps minus points from 8 year old me that regularly informs my food critiques, but plus points for the 'we serve adult food in this pub' approach. I haven't decided) The meat, chicken this time, was excellent and appeared to have been genuinely roasted, as opposed to microwaved, or perhaps rehydrated from a NASA supply surplus (I'm looking at you original oak). Unfortunately, the boiled veg was absolutely vile, and may well have been boiled in dish water. The banter was also epic this week. Smashing pasties willy nilly. 7.5 Jack Madden
Score 7 - Preconceptions of the Eldon lead me to question the quality of the meal. I've eaten a lot in the Eldon before, and not always been impressed with the produce. But the ambience and charm always led me to go back. So hey ho, the roast is a clean slate for them, and that's what I left them, a clean slate, or should that be plate. The roast was nice and mashed potatoes made for a nice change. An array of vegetables gave you choice, however the small Yorkshire puddings were a bit of a disappointment. Good atmosphere, but did lack that spark that gets the higher marks in this competition. All nice all, a better than average performance, but unable to punch above it's weight. Matt Small
A good performance. The Eldon provides a classic pub setting, comfortable seating and wallpaper that would look at home in an Edwardian castle. Classic British Pub. As for the Roast - this was more expensive than some of the others but two types of potato justified that cost in my mind. Mash! Amaze. 8.1 Michael Blades
