Wish I hadn't gone for the chicken instead of the beef. But did get half a roast chicken for 6 pounds so not bad. Unlike Jack, I liked the tough bits of the chicken probably because I am a closet chicken skin fan. Roast pots were good and enjoyed having a gravy boat and control over pouring the gravy, but not enough of it. Overall it didn't excite my taste buds enough so 5.5/10.     LATER: Also the whole night was made slightly worse by various comments on my leggings.

As I expected, but I didn't expect much. The chicken skin was good, but the inside was dry. And when does chicken skin NOT taste good?! Yorkshire's were a highlight. The veg seemed to be there mostly to make up the numbers. And for a roast, not a great deal of roasted material. The gravy brought some moisture and flavour to the table and pulls it up to a 5. Just.

5.5. Main criticism has to be the size of the plates. As a result the large amount of gravy made the rest of the dinner soggy. Soggy meat is not the one. Extra yorkshire for 50p always a winner, and inclusion of a £3 pint with the meal was good. Had roast beef which is better than the taps, but the comedown after Woodies was far too evident. The plate was too small. NO-ONE chooses peas as a vegetable, the carrots were Aldi own-brand, the potatoes were sparse and hidden. The table only just fit us all and a guy was getting frisky at the fruit machine (a plus in case you wondered). Oak: Just OK.

Disappointing, I'm saddened to say. Had the beef - which was dry and rubbery. Pint included and the option of an extra Yorkshire pudding are both quality little perks, however three roast potatoes just isn't enough. Lazy veg. The pub did have plentiful seating space though, and as an aside - you might be interested to know that the Oak does the best pork scratchings you will ever get anywhere. These made for a tasty dessert. Overall, I expected better from such a well established venue. Below par. 5.

Once again, loved the option for a second Yorkshire which was cooked very nicely. The knife wasn't impressive at all but this didn't seem to matter as the beef was overcooked and fell apart from merely grazing on it. The veg was also overcooked and had nothing really going for it. The gravy however was thick and plentiful. Maybe a little too much in fact. They tried to hide their small portions by serving the food on a small plate. I don't feel that there was any traditional values delivered with an original outlook. Five.

5/10/ A good roast dinner, but 'good' is the best word I can give. Meat n Yorkshire Puds gave a traditional value but were very soggy due to excessive amounts of gravy! A bigger plate may have been the issue here. There were too few roast potatoes which isn't delivery with an original outlook. A tad too loud for a pub meal on a Sunday, however the beer was good. A disappointing end was that I quite fancied an Apple Pie but they had stopped serving food by 8:20. Not happy. Overall, after thinking it was a decent meal while I was there, the review has made me realise it wasn't as good. X-Factor contestant: Belle Amie.
